I don't know about the rest of you but it disgusts me to see how much the thousands of web sites charge to simply download a tiny ringtone, picture or game to your mobile phone. So I thought I'd set up my own free WAP site.

The only cost you will incur will be whatever charges your mobile phone company makes for your mobile WAP access, which in Australia is about two cents per kilobyte downloaded. You won't pay anything else to me or anyone else and you can upload/download as much and as often as you like as the cost to me for running this service is negligible.

Just think!!

If I can afford to run this site for free and just for my own interest (and on a veterans pension), then how much money are all of those greedy little buggers making at $5.00 or more per download!!

If anyone else would like to know how to set up a WAP site, all you need is a web host that supports PHP and .htaccess files (probably only a paid host), a free PHP script called "wapbuddy" (search Google for it) and a bit of effort, or you can search for free sites that provide WAP accounts like www.tagtag.com. If I can learn to do it then anyone can!!

I've tested this setup on my wife's Nokia phone and it works ok, however there seem to be zillions of different mobile phones around so I can't guarantee that it will work with all of them. Nor can I guarantee that the ringtones, wallpaper,screensavers or games will work on your phone, but don't forget that it's only going to cost you a few cents (not dollars!) to try this stuff.

Please note that I'm not any sort of expert when it comes to mobile phones as I don't even own one (my wife does) so please don't email me asking me to explain to you how to work your phone.

If you have problems downloading to your phone then try searching the net or the mobile phone forums for answers, but please do not ask me as I cannot help you.
